We deeply regret to announce that DANYLO MARKOVYCH KURDELCHUK, the President of Ukriniurkoleguia, the Honoured Lawyer of Ukraine, an Attorney at Law, passed away on September 30, 2016, after a long and severe illness.

We deeply regret to announce that DANYLO MARKOVYCH KURDELCHUK, the President of Ukriniurkoleguia, the Honoured Lawyer of Ukraine, an Attorney at Law, passed away on September 30, 2016, after a long and severe illness.

D.M. Kurdelchuk worked at Ukriniurkoleguia since 1967 upon graduation from the International Law Department of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv.

In December 1991, D.M. Kurdelchuk was elected Chairman of the Board, and in 1994 he was elected President of independent UKRINIURKOLEGUIA that has become his lifetime work.

Being an outstanding lawyer, a unique national and international law expert, D.M. Kurdelchuk also had unalterably active public stance targeted at the development of the Ukrainian Bar, building the state governed by the rule of law, the defense of rights and lawful interests of our fellow citizens both in Ukraine and abroad.

Through his own efforts, fair compensatory payments were secured for six hundred thousand citizens of Ukraine, former “ostarbeiters”, by the governments of the Federal Republic of Germany and Austria in 2000-2002.

Also, in the early 2000s, D.M. Kurdelchuk initiated another nationwide project on the establishment of the advocacy support system for Ukrainian migrant workers abroad, particularly in Western Europe.

D.M. Kurdelchuk was a member of the Supervisory Board of the Mutual Understanding and Reconciliation Ukrainian National Foundation under the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine; a member of the Presidential Council of the Ukrainian International Law Association; the Deputy Head of the Union of Lawyers of Ukraine; a member of the Governing Body of the Ukrainian Attorneys Union; the Head of the Public Council under the State Registration Service of Ukraine; the Head of the Public Council under the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine; Chairman of Volynske Bratstvo International Charity Association; a member of Lesya Ukrainka East European National University Supervisory Board; a co-founder of Children's Heart International Charity Fund; the Vice-president of Return International Charity Fund.

In his professional and public activities that lasted almost fifty years, D.M. Kurdelchuk was honoured with numerous state, professional, church awards and titles, including the Honoured Lawyer of Ukraine; the People’s Ambassador of Ukraine; numerous the Attorney of the Year awards; the Gold Distinctions of International Ukrainian Lawyers Fund; the honorary citizen of Volyn; the highest decoration of the Union of Lawyers of Ukraine; the honorary distinction of the High Council of Justice; the honorary distinction of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine.

D.M. Kurdelchuk was the Full Cavalier of the State Order of Merit; Commander of the Order of the Holy Great Prince Volodymyr, Equal of the Apostles and the Venerable Nestor the Chronicler.

By virtue of the Decree of the President of the Republic of Panama dated May 12, 2002, the diplomatic status of the Honorary Consul of the Republic of Panama in Ukraine was granted to D.M. Kurdelchuk.

By virtue of the Order of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Austria, D.M. Kurdelchuk was appointed Authorized Attorney of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Austria. 

By virtue of the Decree of Federal President of the Republic of Austria dated February 12, 2015, D.M. Kurdelchuk was awarded the Gold Honorary Distinction of Merit to the Republic of Austria.

The grievous loss of D.M. Kurdelchuk’s death has stricken home to his friends, colleagues and everyone who knew, had the greatest respect to and loved this compassionate, gifted and spiritually wealthy person. 

Ukriniurkoleguia is sad for the bereavement and hereby expresses its sincere condolences to the son, the grandchildren and all the beloved ones of the departed.
